Tuesday’s Spondy Tip: Make Sure Your Rehab Pro Knows About Your Spondy

spondylolisthesis and spondylolysis back pain

In this week’s Tuesday Spondy Tip I am providing you with a tip that you may think is common sense.

Most people have probably already followed this tip, but over the years I am surprised to hear about situations that have occurred and could have been avoided with some simple sharing of information.

Always make sure your rehab professionals knows about your spondy.

This advice is important for those who may be seeking help from a chiropractor, massage therapist, personal trainer or strength coach.

If you are seeking help from a physical therapist it is most likely you will see him/her specifically for your spondy and have a script from a doctor explaining your spondy condition.

But if you reach out on your own to see a chiropractor, massage therapist or trainer ALWAYS be specific when describing your condition.

spondy blank slate

Do not hand your rehab professional a blank slate. Inform them with every bit of detail about your spondy.

Some people make the mistake of just mentioning they have back pain and some say nothing at all.

Your spondy may require special attention, special testing, or special manipulations and without your rehab professional knowing about it, nothing can be done.  And even worse, some things that a rehab professional may perform on you without knowing about your spondy could lead to additional problems.

Even if you are receiving care for some other physical issues, always mention your spondy to the rehab professional before you begin.

This can help to avoid big problems in the long run.
