Spondylolisthesis Exercise: The Dead Bug

I know, I know bugs are gross, but unfortunately that is the name of this common rehab exercise. And over the years I have seen some of the most common exercises butchered to the point that they become detrimental to the health and movement of the person performing them.

Although the title of this post is “Spondylolisthesis Exercise: The Dead Bug” it should be noted that the dead bug is a common “rehab”exercise that is performed for various reasons, not just the presence of spondylolisthesis or spondylolysis. Some with spondylolisthesis may not even need this exercise. This is another important reason why individual screening is so important.

When performed correctly the dead bug exercise contains several benefits and the article provided in the link below does a fantastic job of discussing them.

This post by Certified Strength Coach Tony Gentilcore does a great job of explaining all about this exercise and how you can make sure you perform it correctly. It also includes some great video showing the proper and improper ways of performing this exercise.
